Does The “2 Day Rule” Still Apply?

Most people in the dating world have heard of the 2 day rule at this point. It says that when a guy gets a girl’s phone number, he should wait at least 2 days before calling so that he does not seem needy and keeps her guessing. This unwritten “rule” has been around for almost 20 years now and at this point, almost every dater knows about it.

Since it is so well known, a lot of the mystery and positives that might have come from the rule are now basically void. It is transparent as to what is going on when the guy calls 2 or 3 days later. Gals have changed their approach, and many see it as a lame turn off. Some girls will even set a rule that they will not answer the guy’s call if he has not called within a day or two.

In today’s dating world, ladies looking to avoid the game playing should have ways of dealing with the issue. One option is to disarm the approach at the time you exchange numbers. Crack a joke about the rule and how lame you think it is when he is taking your number. If not then, you can mention it when the guy calls if it has been a few days. It lets the guy know you understand what is going on and can break the ice if done in a fun way.

What do you think? Will you think a guy is too eager if he calls the next day? Do you have your own way of dealing with guys using the technique? Guys, do you still use this rule or has text messaging changed things?

I think the rule only applies if needed and in certain situations. If I like a guy, of course…I want him to call me asap, just so I can know he’s digging me. If I’m not sure about the dude, an immediate phone call might creep me out and I might need a little time to feel the situation out. Men really need to pick up on the woman’s vibe to see if she’s totally diggin’ or half-way wiggin.
