Single Mothers In High Demand

Wed, Jun 23, 2010

When emerging from a recent divorce, many newly single moms view reentry into the dating world as daunting and intimidating. This is not the case. In fact, a recent survey of online dating sites revealed that a single mother has a higher “dating quotient” than any other demographic. What this means is that there is more available partners for single moms than there are for single females without children. Experts have put forth several reasons which could possibly explain this phenomenon.

Newly divorced dads are far more likely to quickly find their way back into the dating scene as opposed to recently divorced moms. This could be explained by the lack of time on the part of moms due to the fact that they usually end up with a higher share of the child care burden when compared to their former spouses. Additionally, many women have trepidations about online dating — thinking it might be dangerous. This translates to many more single dads online than single moms — making the pickings better for the women. Furthermore, many single dads desire to find a woman who already has kids. This eliminates much of the competition single moms face from younger single women without kids.

When done with common sense, online dating can be as safe — if not safer — than traditional blind dates of the past. Single moms should be encouraged by these statistics — the important part when emerging from a divorce is to brush yourself off, get back on your feet and open your eyes to the many possibilities which are out there for you.

This is interesting. Actually, dating sites carry quite a lot of fascinating statistical information. This is because there are many of them out there now, quite a few with millions of members.

Because the people who join put their age, locations, professions and other demographic information, they are a bit of a goldmine for demographers. I regularly read articles in the mainstream media citing figures gleaned from dating sites.

Just goes to show how hugely popular they, and what an integral part of society they have become.

Dating can be a challenging topic for the majority of single parents. Being a single mother of a lovely son I frequently had conversations with my best friends about precisely how to deal with dating in addition to things to explain to my son.
